Mike finally succumbed to many years of attempts by Dave Clark
to persuade him to tour
again with the rest of the DC5. Mike was always central to that
happening since he
wrote or co-wrote many of their songs, as well as singing on
most of them, so for the
group to attempt a revival/reunion tour without him would be
unthinkable.
He produced jingles through the jingle company Sue Manning Music
and served
several radio stations including Capital, Red Rose and Radio
City, as well as Mercia Sound.

by Jim Lee BBC Radio 4 - 29th February 2008
Mike Smith - the singer with the Dave Clark Five - has died
of pneumonia. He was sixty four.
A fall at his home in Spain five years ago had left him paralysed.
Mike Smith had showed
promise as a pianist while still a child. He joined Dave Clark
- and made his recording
debut at eighteen.
The group were the first British act to follow the Beatles in
becoming big stars in America. They
had seventeen hit records between 1964 and 1967. Mike Smith
then worked as a successful
songwriter, producer and writer of advertising jingles.
